Men of God - for the Rosebud, Day 26

If your instructions hadn’t sustained me with joy, I would have died in my misery.
Psalm 119:92

The Hunter

Hunting was a noble, joyful and spiritual role for Lakota men. The hunters provided for the people. The dried meat from a buffalo hunt could sustain a community through an entire winter. And there was profound awareness that the game animals were a gift from God, to be taken with thanksgiving.

Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” Matthew 4:19

...Jesus replied, “I have a kind of food you know nothing about.” John 4:32

Lord Jesus, we pray that the people who gave thanks for the sacrificial death of Tatanka, the buffalo, will give thanks for the spiritual life won for them on the cross with your body and blood.

We pray that you will raise up new Lakota hunters, who will seek out people for your family on earth and your joy in Heaven.

We pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Lakota men, to equip many as evangelists in your Name.

We pray that young men on the Rosebud will bring your life into their communities, displacing affliction, poverty, frustration and suicide.

We ask all this in your Name, Lord Jesus. Amen.
