The mock legislature met in Aberdeen this week. Our son had a great time (he was surprised, actually, at how earthy and fun everybody was).
He did well for himself, winning three elections - Police Chief of his Mock City (or was it Mock Police Chief of his City?); County Coroner (yes, we are a strange family) and then a seat on the State Public Utilities Commission.
Real (not mock) guest speakers included Gov. Mike Rounds (R), Sen. John Thune (R), Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D), SD legislators Scott Heideprim (D) & Dave Knudson (R), and PUC Chairman Dusty Johnson.
Big props to the American Legion for putting on this exercise in the theory and practice of participative government, and for providing scholarships. Also a big thank you to Lincoln High, Sioux Falls for nominating our guy to participate.
