Economy? Weather? Out-of-state pheasant hunt licenses down about 10%

The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports that out-of-state pheasant license purchases were down about 8 - 10% from last year. There was no drop off in resident licenses.

South Dakota's economy gets a considerable annual boost via pheasant season, with some hunt guides and other businesses depending on the season the way retailers rely on Christmas for annual income.

The pheasant population is robust, leading to fears of a Planet of the Apes type takeover of South Dakota (OK, I just made that up).
