...You have done amazing work. At the same time, I want to raise the bar. Looking at those accomplishments, you see a clear line between Sanford Health and MeritCare, between north and south geography.

That line ends today.

Today we must begin to see ourselves as a new organization based on "us" and "we", together. This is not a blending of two organizations but a new organization, built on our strong legacy of care. We must begin to bring everyone together under a new, shared focus and purpose as employees and physicians. Today we must begin to align our goals, decisions and behaviors, working as a single system, regardless of geography.

To meet that vision, we will adopt a unified name and system strategy. We will adopt our name and present it this summer.

As one of the top 50 integrated systems in the nation and as the largest not-for-profit rural system in the country, it is time we drive into the national marketplace. To humbly work and compare our efforts with the likes of Cleveland Clinic, Geisinger, Mayo and John Hopkins is a serious pursuit. To earn distinction and relevance to the nation and the world with what we can do will be a just reward.

We will unveil five centers of excellence: Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Cancer, Heart, Women's and Children's. Each center of excellence will excel at a distinct pinnacle service and be recognized across the country as a premiere medical destination...
