There is a special quality to prairie wind chill that I'm privileged to visit occasionally on business. There's not much to choose from between Edmonton and Grand Forks at -30F. It just happens a bit more often in Edmonton.
The main difference between Canada and the US seems to be availability of good parkas and the willingness to wear them. We have lots of good ones but I can't convince my teenagers to wear them.
As a boy in Labrador, I had the dubious pleasure of walking home (once) in a -80F wind chill. That was a once in a lifetime event or my dad would have taken a transfer out much earlier. Even good parkas don't help much.
You Canadians understand, of course, that your comments on this blog will be construed as a "border crossing" after General Convention, 2009. I think that Schori and Hiltz have already arranged international protocols to deal with this.

Come on...Wind Chill is for wimps! I once had a funeral in Onoway Alberta. It was -45, graveyard on top of a hill, and a 40+ mph wind. Now by the grace of God I serve in San Jose, CA.

Ed - "by the grace of God?" You might want to think again about being sent to CA. Doesn't San Jose have a public monument to Quetzelcoatl or something?
Quetzelcoatl? I had to look that one up. What can I say, the harvest is thick here. On any given Sunday only 7% of the population worships in a church. This is one of the great mission fields in North America. It is also warm. We do see snow on the surrounding mountain peaks, but we don't actually have to touch it. The last time it snowed on the valley floor was 50 years ago. Mind you I did have to cover up our Bouganvilla last night. Tonight too.

Our weather has already crossed the border and got as far as New Orleans I see. It's just our little Christmas present to y'all ;-)
I'm still coming to SD even though I survived the blizzard. (I was up in Brookings this weekend). I got to see SD in all its winter glory.
