On one side was a shrine to Mary with a statue, and on the other, a shrine to Joseph with a statue.

Mary's shrine always had flowers and several votive candles lit. (The candles increased closer to exam time.)

Poor Joseph's was always bereft. No flowers; maybe one votive candle lit if he was lucky. Even during Easter, he got the one or two leftover Easter lilies that couldn't be fit around the Altar or the Marian shrine.

Every time I went in there, I felt sorry for Joseph, sitting all alone in the corner, as if he was the patron saint of unpopular high school kids that weren't in the "in crowd."The Archer of the Foresthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03075768526819990250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-873059253261642303.post-71568374025684908982011-03-19T07:22:31.563-06:002011-03-19T07:22:31.563-06:00Very cool, Tim. I am glad the church is discussing things of this consequence... although we are as usual talking past one another in many cases.

The links at "Treading Grain" are pretty good - there's a Tim Keller piece in which he (Keller) gets and responds to the question. People want to know about God's personality. It is a great question, but we are tending to respond with a barrage of stuff that is unresponsive. Keller responds and shows how the "God who lets everybody in" is revealed to be profoundly UNcaring and impersonal.
